Thermowood Cladding Boards for Exterior Building Façades
Thermally modified pine wood produced without the use of chemicals – a versatile solution for façades, wall cladding, decorative elements, sheds, and fences.
Pine thermowood is processed without chemicals by heating the wood to 160–230°C. This process removes excess moisture and reduces the wood’s ability to absorb and release moisture from the environment. As a result, the natural structure of the wood is preserved while its cellular structure is modified, breaking down the sugars and nutrients within the wood.
Features:
High resistance to external weather conditions
Reduced risk of cracking
Stable and uniform surface and colour
longer service life
Requires less maintenance and fewer chemical protection products
Available Grades:
AB Grade - Good Visual Quality
Knots: Allowed and mostly sound (black knots up to 15 mm).
Cracks: Small cracks along the grain are permissible. On the visible side of the board, cracks up to 10 cm are allowed; on the reverse side, cracks may extend up to 25% of the board length. Cracks must not penetrate through the board.
Resin pockets: Small resin pockets (up to 50 mm) are acceptable.
Colour: Slight variations in shade are acceptable.
Bruising: Minimal and only local.
Defects: Rot and insect damage are not permitted. Through-cracks are allowed only at the ends of the board and must not exceed the width of the board.
BC Grade - Medium Quality Material
Knots: Larger knots are allowed and unlimited in number; some may be loose or missing.
Cracks: Cracks along the grain are permissible (up to 30% of the total board length), as well as through-cracks up to 1 m.
Resin pockets: Acceptable.
Colour: Uneven colour tones are acceptable.
Bruising: Permitted to a greater extent.
Defects: Loose or missing knots, breaks, and mechanical damage are permissible. Small knots affected by rot or insect damage are also allowed.
Heat Treatment Process:
The wood is first dried, reducing the moisture content to a very low level that can approach 0%. It is then conditioned with steam to improve the stability and flexibility of the wood, reaching an optimal moisture content of 4-8%, which is suitable for further processing and use.
Planing Options:
Depending on the processing requirements, the most suitable planing option can be selected.
A smoothly planed surface is particularly suitable for transparent finishes and stains that highlight the natural wood texture.
A finely brushed surface is suitable for opaque paints where good adhesion to the material is important.
Properties of thermo wood:
Highly resistant to environmental factors such as moisture, temperature fluctuations, mould, fungi, and rot. This makes it suitable for outdoor spaces and structures where long service life and durability are required.
Improved dimensional stability, resulting in less expansion and a lower risk of cracks or deformation.
Provides a stable and uniform surface and colour. Suitable for preserving the natural wood appearance or for further finishing (tinting, oiling, varnishing, etc.), depending on the needs of the project.
Longer service life with reduced maintenance and less need for chemical preservatives.
Processing Services:
We offer high-quality wood processing services for both companies and private customers.
Industrial wood coating - an industrial process using automated equipment that ensures an even and durable coating, protection against external factors, and a long-lasting aesthetic appearance for façades, terraces, fences, and interior finishes.
Brushing (aging effect) - a process in which a brush removes the softer wood fibres from the surface, giving the material an antique, textured appearance that creates a modern and cosy atmosphere in interiors.
Wood charring - a treatment process using flame and oil finishing that gives the surface a unique appearance, additional durability, and hardness, making it suitable for both interior and exterior use.
Fire-retardant treatment - wood treatment with special agents that reduce flammability and increase fire resistance, making the material suitable for construction and interior applications where fire safety is particularly important.
Impregnation - the wood is treated with special preservatives that protect it from damage and extend its service life, making it particularly suitable for construction, outdoor furniture, and fencing.
*Up to 5% of the purchased finishing boards may not fully comply with the specified grade and its requirements (possible mechanical damage, loose knots, end cracks, rot, or insect damage).
Before purchasing, please consult the seller or manufacturer for specific advice and offers tailored to your specific needs and project.
